Turner Acryl Gouache 36-set and some tubes from old series, swatching and 15 months lightfastness test

Results of the lightfastness test of the 36-set

The set of 36 tubes of Turner Acrylic Gouache contains 6 colors that are not lightfast (numbers 22, 24, 25, 62, 121 and 161.) Four colors displayed changes in saturation and temperature (numbers 30, 152, 55, 151). Hence, out of the 36 tubes, 26 are usable professionally. It is not a bad result, but in case I would be shopping for these I would compare how many tubes of guaranteed lightfast paints I would get for the price of the set.

Below are images showing the results of the light fastness test. Included are the 24 that are not in the basic 12-set. For those 12, see separate post.

Result of light fastness test of Old series of Turner Acrylic Gouache

I bought 17 tubes of the old series of Turner Acrylc Guoache on sale. They don’t have the same matte finish as the current line of paint. They are more akin to regular acrylic. However, they performed excellently in my 15 month lightfastness test. Even the colors that are purple and magenta proved to be lightfast. I’m so glad I got them, because none of the purples (all the cold reds – from pink to magenta to lilac) in the 36 set are fugitive. The only lightfast purple in the current Turner acrylic gouache line is the #363 in the Japanesque lin. As far as I know.

Swatch cards of all the Turner acryl gouache; the 36 set, the japanesque line and those from old series. Practical to flip through when settling on a palette for a painting.
