Papers for monoprints on big gelli plate (16x20in)

Tissue: brittle, but great pull. Not good for big pieces, good for collage.

Copy paper: ok, cheap and reuse of proofing papers. Be mindful or archival quality

Mulberry (Pi) paper: excellent pull, pleasant to touch. Archival. Needs mounting.

Glassine paper: good pull. Archival. Expensive. Needs mounting. I need to try painting on it before I know if to continue using it.

Hot press watercolor paper. Pull is challenging but possible. Archival. No need to mount.

With “pull” I mean how much paint transfers from the press to the paper.

My favorites are mulberry paper and hot press watercolor paper. Each has their own challenges. A big piece of thin paper is difficult to mount , and a thick paper has less “pull”.
