My main watercolor palette consist of good quality pigments. All of them are single pigments except the Payne’s grey mixture. The reason for choosing single pigments is that this is better for mixing colors – the fewer pigments, the lesser is the risk for the mixes to become “muddy”. I know this palette very well, I have used these pigments for many years. Purple. magenta, eg cold red colors are often fugitive. Instead of using alizarin crimson I use the verzino violet, PR122, which is less fugitive according to other tests (like by Handprint). It will be interesting to see the results of my own light fastness test. I’m also very curious of the Le Franc Violet that consists PV46.
Most of the tubes are from the brand MaimeriBlu (MB), a few from Winsor and Newton (WN) and one, the violet, is from Le Franc (LF).
I will update this post with after the the swatches have been exposed to light for some months.
