Materials for Life Drawing – anticipation and trying ALL of them

In anticipation of a life drawing class I have planned to go to I’m nervously trying out what materials I should bring. Trying ALL of them.

What feels good? What is portable? What is quick? What… eek. I’m the eternal beginner.

I found some posing on YouTube and tried 1 – 3 minutes per material.

So many wrongs. What feels best is a charcoal stick without a holder, or watercolor.

I’m trying to be kind to myself. That all learn differently. And that it’s ok to be an overthinking systematic worrywart. it’s my way to learn. And that it’s ok that things are not perfect. I can’t expect perfection if I’m practicing. If I expect that I would not ever get even close to perfection, because that criteria would make it impossible to practice, and hence learn.

The jury is still out on what materials to bring to life drawing session with a model, but I think I’ll go with natural charcoal sticks and bring my favorite watercolor palette from the studio. Pigments that I know thoroughly- less risk of cognitive overload. And they are quick.

But… jury is out still.
