Like long envelopes?
Using a more angled ruler than those that usually come with paper scoring boards it is possible to make long envelopes! I mean those where you can put papers folded in 3, instead of folding a square.
Here is how!
Obs – this instruction will make only sense to those who have scoring boards already. For basic formats and envelopes -google it, there are good instructions out there.
- Start with an A4 paper (no need to cut it to a square).
- Use a more angled ruler (not the included one).
- The score lines to use are for the vertical fold: 3 3/8″
- The score lines for the horisontal is 2 7/8 ”
- Fold, glue, trim.
These measurements allows fitting in a 3-fold a4 as well as gives space to glue the envelope together. ( tiny bit smaller than e65 allows for the glue)
Here is the summary note I made for myself and taped onto my shoring board;
<Background
I bought a scoring board for making envelopes! I love the idea to make my own envelopes out of scrap paper – recycling instead of creating more waste.
It was easy to make C6 envelopes – those fits an A4 page folded twice – a common format in Sweden. One makes a square out of an A4, and scores and folds – using the board as it is supposed to be used – instructions are included.
…but I like these longer envelopes, where one can put in an A4 page folded in three parts. I was not able to find instruction or measurements for that.
I experimented, and found that by using a more angled ruler instead of the included one I could make one! I first tried to make the standard format for it, called E65, but it turned out that an A4 paper is just a tad too small to allow glueing the envelope together. After a couple of tries I found measurements for making an envelope that is a little bit smaller than an E65, but still comfortably holds a 3-folded A4.
