Altered book as birthday present – cover

I made an altered book for a friends birthday. A bunch of other friends helped with finding photos that I could use when making photo collages inside it.

Above: Book cover in acrylics. I used modelling paste on the spine to cover the structure of the title of the original book that I altered. Then I painted.

I ripped out pages from the book to make room for the photos. I glued together pages so that they would be able to take acrylic paint. Some pages I only glued together on the top and bottom, so that they can function as photo pockets.
Example of what it looks like inside.

Above is an example spread.. On this particular page the layers are, from the bottom: 1) a sumie painting on shodo paper glued onto page spread. 2) a layer of blue acrylics applied as mono print. 3) black border in acrylics, 4) photos, that are printed on photo paper. The corners are rounded with a special punch, and on the borders of the photo, distress ink is used to make a vignette border. 5) note glued on, cut in a shape corresponding to the background painting, then sprayed with shimmer ink.

There were 17 spreads of photos in the book, and they all have different colors and collages. It was fun to make, but it took a long time to do it. Once I had started I couldn’t quit though, it became an obsession.
